Why Red Diamond Guava Earns a Premium

Most guava varieties on the Indian market produce white or pale-yellow flesh. Red Diamond stands apart with a visually striking deep red interior that commands 20–35% higher prices at mandis and in direct retail. The fruit’s aroma is stronger than standard varieties, and the skin remains firm during transport — a significant advantage for farmers supplying to distant wholesale markets or export chains.

Red Diamond Guava is also notably productive. Mature trees at standard spacing can yield over 40 kg of fruit per season per tree. Across a one-acre plot with around 400 trees, this translates to 8–12 tonnes of marketable fruit annually at full production.

Planting Guide — Red Diamond Guava

Spacing & Plants Per Acre
Two spacing options are recommended for commercial Red Diamond Guava orchards:
  • Standard spacing (5m × 5m): Approximately 400 plants per acre. Recommended for rain-fed or low-input systems. Canopy management is easier.
  • High-density spacing (4m × 4m): Approximately 625 plants per acre. Suitable for drip-irrigated, well-managed orchards. Higher early-year yield, but requires canopy pruning from year 3 onward.
Planting Season & Soil
The ideal planting window in Madhya Pradesh is June–August (onset of monsoon) or February–March (post-winter). Red Diamond Guava thrives in well-drained loam or sandy-loam soils with pH 5.5–7.5. Avoid waterlogged areas — guava roots are sensitive to standing water. Dig pits 60cm × 60cm × 60cm and fill with a mix of topsoil, farmyard manure, and single superphosphate before transplanting.
Irrigation
Drip irrigation is strongly recommended for the first 2 years to establish a deep root system. Mature Red Diamond Guava trees are drought-tolerant, but consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development significantly improves fruit size and Brix levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does Red Diamond Guava start fruiting after planting?
Grafted Red Diamond Guava plants typically begin fruiting within 2 to 3 years of transplanting under proper irrigation and care. Grafted plants fruit significantly earlier than seedling-grown plants because the root system is already established at the time of propagation.
How many Red Diamond Guava plants can I plant per acre?

At standard commercial spacing of 5m × 5m, you can accommodate around 400 plants per acre. For high-density planting at 4m × 4m spacing, the count rises to approximately 625 plants per acre. High-density planting requires intensive irrigation and nutrient management.

What is the minimum order quantity for Red Diamond Guava plants?

Is Red Diamond Guava suitable for Madhya Pradesh’s climate?

Yes. Red Diamond Guava thrives in the semi-arid tropical climate of Madhya Pradesh. It tolerates temperatures from 10°C to 45°C and performs well in Malwa, Nimar, and Bundelkhand regions with well-drained loam or sandy-loam soils. The variety handles MP’s dry summers effectively with drip irrigation support.
